Councillor Lord with Melanie Dickinson from Help for Heroes

The Phoenix House Recovery Centre at Catterick has received a £1,000 donation from the former chairman of Richmondshire District Council.

During his year in office councillor Russell Lord raised £4,800 for local charities.

Run by Help for Heroes, the centre aims to inspire people that have been wounded, injured or become sick while serving the country – to enable them to lead an active, independent and fulfilling life. The specially designed building includes 46 ensuite rooms, four family rooms, an IT suite, training facilities, gym, café and social areas.

Cllr Lord also gave cash to the Great North Air Ambulance and the Yorkshire Air Ambulance, SSAFA, and the MRI Campaign at the Friarage Hospital in Northallerton. It was raised through raffles, auctions and tombolas at various events through the year – including the Civic Dinner and Reception.
